Nederlandse au pair in San Francisco 2004
My au pair year in the USA has been wonderful!
I lived in San Francisco, California, and I took care of two girls (5 and 7), they were really cute and sweet but I must honestly say that my first few months were hard, I could really tell that the girls were testing me out; how far can you go with your new nanny?? But once we got used to eachother everything turned out to be fine and we had a wonderful time together! I am still thinking about them and I miss them a lot! After a few months my hostmom told me she was pregnant again! The due date turned out to be two weeks after I was supposed to be leaving, and since I didn't want to leave after experiencing and being a part of my hostmom's pregnancy,
I decided to use my 13th month to stay and help out instead of travelling. So instead of travelling my 13th month, I decided to travel in my two-week vacation. I saw Yosemite, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and New York. Never in my life I have been taking so many photographs as during my stay in the United States. There are so many wonderful places to see and I did my best to travel as much as possible. I loved the culture and all the friendly people I met. I still miss the kids, the weather, and all my friends.
Since your visa requires you to take classes, I took English and Spanish classes which was really nice! It's good to get out of your daily routine, learn stuff and meet new people! I found so many good friends from all over the world and that I still have contact with some of them is really awesome. We all planned on visiting eachother in our own countries in the future. Now I'm back home in Holland, with great memories, great friends from all over the world and 1200 pictures!! This au pair year has been great, I don't regret it at all, it has been such a wonderful experience and has changed my life for good!
